 PAPYRUS ELEPHANTINE 4 

 

L41 of Ptolemaios as basileus, in the 3rdL of the priest Eureos, son of Proitos, in the month 

Hyperberetaios. Elaphion, Syrian, along with a kyrios  Dion deposited with Pantarkes,  Arkadian, tropheia

for herself of four hundred silver drachmas. It shall not,  however, be permissible for  Pantarkes to proceed against Elaphion 

to extract tropheia or reduce her to slavery for any pretext at all, or for another on behalf of Pantarkes. 

5    Otherwise a  charge by them shall be invalid (akyros)and Pantarkes shall pay out to Elaphion  or any‑  

one acting on behalf of Elaphion an additional penalty of a  thousand drachmas. This  syngraphe here shall be valid everwhere  

that Elaphion might introduce it against Pantarkes or another  acting on behalf of Elaphion  just as it is

described for Elaphion. Witnesses: Kleonikos, Arkadian; Nikagoras, Kyrenaian; Rhodokles,  Aiginetan; 

Aphrodisios, Sidonian; Dionysios, Magnesian; Thaliarchos,  Kyrenaian. Keeper of the contract (syngraphophylax) Nikagoras.

Elaphion, Syrian, along with a kyrios  Pantarkes deposited with Antipater, Arkadian, tropheia  for herself  of 300 silver dr. 

It shall not, however, be permissible for Antipater to proceed  against Elaphion to extract tropheia or reduce her to slavery on any pretext 

at all, or for another on behalf of Antipater.  Otherwise a charge by them shall be invalid  (akyros) and  

5    Antipater shall pay out to Elaphion or anyone acting on her behalf an additional penalty  of  3.000 dr. This syngraphe  here shall be valid

 everywhere that Elaphion might introduce it against Antipater  or another acting on behalf of  Elaphion just as it is
