DOD CDMRP - Ovarian Cancer Research Program
The Department of Defense (DOD), office of Congressionally Directed Medical
Research Programs (CDMRP) is soliciting applications for its Ovarian Cancer
Research Program (OCRP). A summary of the program is provided
below. Detailed descriptions of each funding mechanism, evaluation criteria, and submission
requirements can be found in the Program Announcements which are available

1) Ovarian Cancer Academy Award – Early Career
Investigator (Funding Opportunity
No.: W81XWH-12-OCRP-OCA)
Objectives
- To develop successful, highly productive ovarian cancer researchers in a collaborative research training environment.
- To solicit additional Early-Career Investigators to join the existing Academy.
The current Ovarian Cancer Academy is a virtual career development and research training platform consisting of seven Early-Career Investigator/Designated mentor pairs from different institutions and one Academy Dean. The Academy Dean serves as a resource for the Early-Career Investigators and Mentors, assesses the progress of the Early-Career Investigators, and facilitates communication and collaboration among all of the Early-Career Investigators and Mentors.
Value
Up to $750K
Duration
Up to 5 years
Deadlines
ORS Deadline – April 3rd for pre-application submission; July 3rd for full application
Pre-application submission deadline - April 17, 2012, 5:00 p.m. Eastern time (ET)
Invitation to submit an application – May 2012
Application submission deadline – July 18, 2012, 11:59 p.m. ET
2) Pilot Award (Funding Opportunity No.: W81XWH-12-OCRP-PA)
Objectives
- To support conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field of ovarian cancer research forward.
Applications will be accepted in all areas of ovarian cancer research, however, research from the following areas are encouraged:
· Using novel approaches for improving the performance and validity of predictive disease markers
· Understanding the mechanistic basis of disease markers
· Generating novel imaging/molecular imaging approaches for screening and management
· Generating innovative insights in etiology, risk factors, and outcomes for ovarian cancer
· Identifying and validating molecular targets for therapy
Optional Nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar: A nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar is being offered as an optional feature of the Pilot Award to foster the next generation of ovarian cancer investigators through mentored research training. Only one predoctoral student (candidate must be named) can be included as a Teal Predoctoral Scholar within a given application. Applications that contain a nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar will qualify for a higher level of funding.
Value
Up to $250K; if including a qualified nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar, up to $300K.
Duration
Up to 2 years
Deadlines
ORS Deadline – March 26th for pre-application submission; July 3rd for full application

3) Synergistic Translational Leverage Award (Funding Opportunity No.:
W81XWH-12-OCRP-STLA)
Objectives
- To support the partnership between two Principal Investigators who will leverage existing human-based ovarian cancer resources in translational research to address high-impact research ideas or unmet needs in ovarian cancer. Examples of human based resources include, but are not limited to, biorepositories of clinical specimens, existing tissue banks, epidemiological resources, clinical databases, large transcriptome or proteome datasets, and databases of clinical data and/or metadata.
- To support translational projects such as, but not limited to, resource refinement, in silico research, database mining, applied biomarker research, correlative studies, prospective studies involving human subjects, and other translational research.
