November 28

Read Chapter 9 and review Chapter 10 of the Teo text. Also read Chapters 1 and 2 from Martín-Baró’s Writings for a Liberation Psychology.

Following are a couple of suggestions for how you might approach the response paper this week. However, if you have reactions that don’t fit into one of these schemes, feel free to organize the paper as suits your ideas. Please complete your writing, 1 to 2 pages, before class on Nov. 28 – preferably as an entry on the Dialogue Forum.

1. Complete one of the following generic prompts:

The thing I found most interesting about the week’s reading was ….
The most contentious aspect of the reading from my point of view is ….
What I found most relevant to my work from this week’s reading was ….

2. Discuss what possibilities there might be for a “liberation psychologist” or “post-colonial psychologist” in the Metro Toronto area. Worded a bit differently, what would it look like on an everyday basis for a psychologist engaged in practice or research here to put Liberation Psychology (or the post-colonial critique) at the centre of his/her work?
