York University Security Officers

York University , located in Toronto , is Canada 's third-largest university and provides full-time and part-time graduate and undergraduate degree programs to approximately 49,496 students in ten faculties.

York security staff provides services to enhance the safety and security of all our community members. Predicated on a community-based service philosophy, security officers patrol 24-hours-a day through a network of roadways, buildings, residential areas, and commercial facilities. Security patrols are conducted by foot, vehicle, and on bicycle. Uniform operations are supported by a Security Control Centre, Closed Circuit T.V. a Crime Prevention Unit, and an Investigative and Training Unit.

York recruits motivated individuals who will take pride in providing a high level of professional customer service to the York community. When we recruit, we encourage applications from women, visible minorities and aboriginal people.

Successful candidates will have graduated from University or College. Candidates must be physically able to perform the duties required, have a valid Ontario driver's license, possess first aid and CPR certification, and must not possess a criminal record. A willingness to undertake additional training is essential. Security Officers work 42-hours per week, with rotating 12-hour shifts. Candidates will have well developed skills in communication, customer service, non-violent conflict resolution, effective listening, interpersonal relations, problem solving and computer literacy skills, and familiarity with working in a unionized environment. Fluent written and oral communication in French and English is required for positions at our Glendon campus.
