GENERAL
The Door Access Card Program allows students to gain entry into rooms such as labs, which are controlled by a card reader for security reasons. Students will not be able to access these rooms without a door access card. Computer labs that are currently participating in the York University Door Access Card Program are:
- S110; S117b; N119 Ross Building
- 159 Behavioural Sciences Building
- 107 McLaughlin
- 4023; 4027; 4028; 4029; 4031 & 4034 TEL Bldg (Dept. of Design)
- 020; 226 Petrie Building
- 122 West; 123 East; 126 East; 127 West Centre for Film & Theatre
All students enrolled in Faculty of Arts and/or Faculty of Fine Arts courses can obtain door access cards from the Customer Service counter at Parking and Transportation Services, 222 William Small Centre, during the office hours as indicated below:
Mondays - Thursdays from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Fridays from 8:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
All students enrolled in Faculty of Science & Engineering Courses, which need to gain access to 020 and/or 226 Petrie can obtain door access cards from 125 Petrie. All other students should contact their department or course director.
At the time of receipt the door access card is not active and does not contain any access privileges. Students are instructed to register their card online on Door Access Registration, at http://dooraccess.yorku.ca/. Students will be prompted to enter their Passport York username and password. Students should follow the links on the website to register their door access card. Once the card is registered, the card will become active with access privileges to labs and rooms after 24 - 48 hours. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR CARD WILL NOT BECOME ACTIVE IF YOU ARE NOT FULLY REGISTERED IN THE COURSE THAT IS GRANTING YOU ACCESS TO THE LAB.
It is only possible to register one door access card per student. Once students register a card in Door Access Registration, subsequent card registrations will not be accepted. Students require only one door access card. All access privileges that students require will be activated onto one card - the card they register online at http://dooraccess.yorku.ca/.
LOST OR STOLEN CARDS
Any lost, stolen and/or found door access cards must be reported, upon discovery, to Security, Parking and Transportation Services, Campus Services and Business Operations at York University.
For after hours reporting, please go to Security Control Centre located at 228 William Small Centre, or by phone at (416) 736-5333 (extension 53333).
REPLACEMENTS
A replacement card will only be issued upon presentation of a proper photo ID (driver's license, York card, health card, passport, or citizenship). All replacement cards are subject to a $20 fee upon issuance.
All old cards will be deactivated once a new card has been issued.

THE YORK UNIVERSITY DOOR ACCESS CARD
What is the Door Access card?
A door access card is a card that is used to facilitate the entry and exit of proximity reader, access controlled labs and rooms on York University premises. A proximity reader is a small device located next to the door handle of a door with a light indicator that is typically red. When a card is placed in front of the device, the light will turn green if the card being presented contains appropriate access privileges.
Do I need
a Door Access card?
Students who are enrolled in courses that require the use of a proximity reader, access controlled lab or room for coursework or study will need a door access card. Students require only ONE door access card for courses taken from the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Science & Engineering. Students who require access to labs and room located in the Computer Science and Engineering Building and/or the Schulich School of Business will need an additional door access card, which can be obtained from those other faculties.
How do
I obtain a Door Access card?
Students enrolled in courses that require access privileges to a lab or classroom can obtain a card during class from the course instructor. Students only need one door access card even if they are enrolled in more than one class requiring access privileges to different labs across campus. Please note that cards will only be distributed to students enrolled in Faculty of Arts and/or Faculty of Fine Arts courses when visiting the William Small Centre. Students enrolled in Faculty of Science & Engineering courses must go to room 125, Petrie (for Petrie Labs) or the Computer Science and Engineering building, for CSEB labs.
How
do I register my Door Access card?

Students requiring access to labs or classrooms from the Schulich School of Business or the Computer Science and Engineering buildings may need an additional door access card – this second card can be obtained from the other faculty directly.
How
do I use my Door Access card?
Students need to hold the door access card in front of the proximity reader until the red light turns green.
For Security and Safety, do not permit others to "tail-gate" behind you as they may not be authorized to have access.
What
should I do if my Door Access card is lost or stolen?

What
do I do if I find the original card after having reported it lost
or stolen?
If you find your card after having reported it lost or stolen, you should report and return the original card to Security, Parking and Transportation Services as indicated above.
Please note that there will be NO reimbursement for any replacement card issued in the event that the original card is returned.
Do
I need to return my Door Access card when my courses end?
If students should withdraw from the University prior to the end of their courses, graduate from the University and are no longer a student, or have de-enrolled from any or all courses that require a door access card, they should return their card to the Customer Service counter at Parking and Transportation Services, 222 William Small Centre, during the office hours as indicated below:

- Fridays from 8:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

What
should I do if my Door Access card does not work?
Students with malfunctioning door access cards should be report the incident immediately to Security, Parking and Transportation Services, by email, at doorcard@yorku.ca, and in person:
