SEdA's Award of Excellence Recipient: Gerald Farthing
The Sustainability and Education Academy (SEdA) is honoured to present Dr Gerald Farthing, Deputy Minister, Manitoba Education, it's 2011 exemplary leadership Award for his significant contribution to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
The Sustainability and Education Academy (SEdA) provides a unique leadership program for school leaders across Canada to support their work and commitment in implementing sustainability into all aspects of the school system. SEdA has been privileged to work with Dr. Farthing in Manitoba and is proud to present this award to an outstanding leader.
With his leadership as Deputy Minister of Education in Manitoba, Dr. Farthing and the Manitoba Ministry of Education have supported school divisions, faculties of education and other organizations in incorporating ESD in both their attitudes and their actions. To this end, Manitoba is a world leader in this area. Their provincial policies, school programs, curriculum materials and professional development all reflect a commitment to sustainable development Dr. Farthing has also spearheaded ESD in Canada through the Council of Ministers of Education, and internationally . He is Chair of the UN Economic Commission for Europe's Steering Committee on Education for Sustainable Development .
