CURRENT RESEARCH

Spatial disorientation in new and old environments is prevalent following damage to the brain and can be debilitating to everyday life. To date, research has focused on the role of the hippocampus in recent spatial memory; less is known about the role of the hippocampus in remote spatial memory for environments learned long ago. I am interested in further characterizing patterns of intact and impaired spatial memory in patients with damage to the fornix or medial temporal lobe. By doing so, I hope to contribute to our understanding of the brain structures underlying spatial navigation in real-world environments.
