We are proud to announce that this year's keynote speaker is Loic Wacquant,
a distinguished scholar working in the areas of: urban ethnography, classic
and contemporary social theory, carceral institutions in the government of
misery, as well as violence and the body. Wacquant will be speaking on his
recent work, participating in a panel discussion on urban ethnography, and
introducing the film, Sociology is a Combat Sport. This film depicts a day
in the life of Pierre Bourdieu, with whom Professor Wacquant worked closely
for over a decade.
Loic Wacquant is currently Professor of Sociology at the University of
California-Berkeley and Researcher at the Centre de Sociologie europeenne
du College de France, Paris.
