Assistant Professor of Geography, Nipissing University, Environment, Geography and Health in South Sudan

 

Born in the South Sudan, Dr. Odwa Atari has bachelor degree in Animal Production from the University of Juba in Sudan. He arrived in Canada as a refugee 13 years ago and has earned a master’s degree in Environmental Studies and Management from Dalhousie University and an advanced diploma in GIS and Remote Sensing from the Center of Geographic Sciences (COGS) in Nova Scotia. Dr. Atari has a PhD in Health Geography from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario.

His research interest includes environment and health, population health and GIS applications in health studies. Dr. Atari has worked most of his life as a volunteer with internally displaced and refugee students in Sudan, Egypt, and Canada. His publications include a report entitled Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurial Capacities in Southern Sudan: Assessment and Opportunities. Dr. Atari is currently an assistant professor at Ni! pissing U niversity, Department of Geography, North Bay, Ontario.
