Employment Specialist/Case Coordinator, City of Ottawa, Municipal Government, Canada

 

Social Services, Employment and Financial Assistance with the municipal government in Ottawa, Canada. Front line experience includes, financial and employment assistance, assessments, coaching, interviewing, job matching and referral to internal and external community programs.

Skills acquired through academic include practical application of graduate level research work and strategies (GT), proposals, program development and evaluations. Completed Master’s research project titled, “Ethnographic Review of Luo Groups in Africa, 2007”, and completed second research project (Ph.D.) thesis in 2012, titled “Help Not Wanted :(Un) Employment Experiences of Visible Minority Migrants in the City of Ottawa, Canada”.

Research work and interest centered on national and international immigration and socio-cultural issues and the interplay between them as they affect the course and pace of social relations. As well, global and local issues of cultural and ethnic diversity, social construction of groups, communities, individuals, its consequences on health and human well-being. From Social Constructionism views, I am interested in social construction of culture (s), ethnicity, diversity, groups, communities, individual and their constructed meanings in what individual(s) describe as real or facts from own perspectives.

Conferred a Ph.D. in Social Science by Tilburg University, The Netherlands in association with Taos Institute, USA; a Masters of Liberal Studies (MLS) degree from Fort Hays State University/FHSU, and BA in Sociology from Alexandria University, Egypt.
