Dissertation Research Workshop Childcare Policy

SPT/GSA is committed to making the DRW accessible to all people. A childcare subsidy has been set in place in order to assist parents and caregivers who might otherwise find it difficult financially to attend the DRW, thus increasing accessibility and enriching the DRW experience for all. Each caregiver is entitled to a $20.00 subsidy per DRW session. Caregivers with several children, and/or a special needs child should notify the SPT/GSA of the additional expenses when submitting their claim. Unfortunately, due to limited budgets SPT/GSA does not expect to be able to provide full funding for childcare. However, since the demand for childcare subsidies is at this time unclear, the subsidy procedure will be reevaluated in February 1998 in the attempt to ascertain if the $20.00 limit per DRW is sufficient for enabling caregivers to attend, what additional funds need to be made available for caregivers with several children and/or a special needs child, or whether or not the SPT budget can sustain the present subsidy programme.

There are no restrictions on qualification for childcare subsidy. Request forms will be available on top of the mailboxes in the SPT lounge, and at the DRW. A request form must be completed for each claim. These forms are required as they ensure that a claim is not forgotten, and provide a receipt for SPT bookkeeping purposes. Completed forms are to be put in Ellen Travis' mailbox. Reimbursement will be as timely as possilbe (usually within the week).

Please note that the DRW Childcare subsidy is retroactive, and caregivers are welcome to submit claims for both the October and November 1997 DRW sessions.
