Stong College Fellows
What is a Fellow?
Stong Fellows share the conviction that community issues, intellectual stimulation and debate, the pursuit of learning for its own sake, and concern for wider social and personal issues are the heart and soul of a successful university experience. Through participation in college life Fellows also help sustain the rich cultural and intellectual mosaic of stong college and the wider york university communities. Drawn from york and beyond, Fellows give shape and defintion to a diversified, vigorous, and healthy intellectual community for both faculty and students. They do so through a variety of activities such as organizing colloquia, conferences, guest speakers and special events that support the four pillars of stong's intellectual mandate: language and literature, sport and physical activity, multiculturalism, and social commitment.
Fellows also provide academic resource and advising support during first year orientation and at other times throughout the year, and by adjudicating applications for college financial awards and scholarships and the essay writing, play writing and sport design competitions. Each Fellow designs the unique and particular manner in which s/he contributes.
Individuals become Fellows at the invitation of the master as well as being nominated from the university and the community at large. Upon the recommendation of the Fellows Selection Committee, nominees are invited to become Fellows of the College. If you would like to share your passions or nominate other individuals to the fellowship at Stong, please contact the Fellows Selection Committee.
