ROOM RESERVATION DEPOSIT

You will be asked to pay a $300 room reservation deposit directly to your Student Account to confirm your acceptance of room offer.  The reservation deposit is non-refundable, unless Housing Services withdraws your residence offer. The room deposit is not an additional charge and will be deducted from your room charge.

MEAL PLANS and FLEX PACKS

Students living in a traditional undergraduate residence room will need to purchase a meal plan. Meal plans are available in amounts of $2,500, $3,000, $3,500 and $4,000 and are exempt from Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

Students living in a suite style room with kitchen access may purchase an optional suite plan which allows the added convenience of not having to cook all the time.  Suite plans cost $1,600 and are exempt from HST.

Students have access to over 40 campus food outlets and every time you buy food, the amount of the purchase will be debited from your account.  Meal plans may not necessarily provide for three meals a day, seven days a week for every student and will depend upon your personal eating habits.

Students have the option to purchase a Flex pack of $100, $250 or $500.  Flex dollars are used to pay for residence laundry machines, grocery/pharmacy items, printing/photocopying and purchases of food from participating/select off-campus restaurants.

The purchase value of your meal plan and flex pack is assigned to your YU-card.  You may conveniently go online to add money to either plan at any time using Visa or Mastercard.  You may also carry forward a portion of unspent meal plan dollars to purchase food in your subsequent years for as long as you remain enrolled at York.  For more information about meal plans, flex packs, and food options on campus, visit www.yorku.ca/food.

RESIDENCE AND MEAL PLAN CHARGES AND PAYMENTS

The full amount of your residence and meal fees will be posted to your student account following your acceptance of residence.  New for this year, you have the option to pay your fees in two installments without paying late fees as long as you pay by the due dates. The first installment requires students to pay half of their residence and meal fees by September 10th with the remainder due by January 10th.   You may still pay your fees in full at the start of the year however if you choose to pay in two installments, you are still responsible for the full term of the residence agreement subject to the cancellation, withdrawal and termination policy below.

Student account statements are posted online near the 18th of each month at http://sfs.yorku.ca/services/statements/index.htm.

A late fee of 1% per month will apply to overdue accounts. For more information about making payments to your student account, go to: http://sfs.yorku.ca/fees/paying/.

ADDITIONAL FEES/CHARGES

  • Students are responsible for paying fines for damages and cleaning services when deemed applicable.
  • Students are required to pay for lock changes and key replacement in the event of lost, stolen or non-returned keys.
  • The University is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property for any reason.  It is recommended that students make their own insurance arrangements before moving into residence and should check if additional coverage is possible under their parent’s insurance policy.

CANCELLATION, WITHDRAWAL AND TERMINATION

  • If you accept your offer then cancel your offer before August 15th, you will lose your deposit.   If you accept your offer then cancel your offer on or after August 15th, you will lose your deposit and an additional $500 cancellation fee will be charged.
  • Your residence agreement is in effect as soon as you move in and have been issued your keys, regardless of the date. If you withdraw from or are removed from residence after moving in as per Section V of the Residence Agreement, then you will continue to be responsible for the payment of all residence fees for the full term of the agreement, unless a new tenant who is selected by Housing Services and who is not already residing in a York residence enters into an occupancy agreement for your residence space.
  • Should Housing Services find someone to take over your space, then your room charges will terminate when the new resident moves in. Additionally, you will be charged a $500 cancellation fee for early termination of your Agreement.

The University reserves the right to deny accommodation to any student with outstanding debts to the University, or for any other just cause (see criteria for admission and Undergraduate Residence Agreement).

Note: Published rates and fees are subject to approval and change without notice.
