W2014: progress to date

Jan 6 Lecture 1

Introduced course website. Went over the "handout" document. Mentioned tutorials and other course aids. Introduced electronic web assignment (EWA) system briefly. Went quickly over several problems in "Trial Assignment".

Bring your EWA code to next class; we'll create an account and log in, if you haven't already done so. The course website contains instructions for registering on EWA; you'll find a class key there, and further you need to purchase an EWA code.

Jan 8 Lecture 2 Showed how to create WEBASSIGN account. Went over Sections 1.1 and 1.2. We'll briefly discuss 1.3 and then review Appendix D on trig. Please thoroughly go through 1.3 and App D to prepare for next class.
Jan 10 Lecture 3 Discussed 1.3 thoroughly, and went over much of Appendix D. Next time we'll talk briefly about trig identities, then move on to 1.5. Section 1.4 will be skipped - it is not examinable. Read up on Trig Identities as well as Section 1.5 to prepare for next class.
Jan 13 Lecture 4 Completed Trig Review and Section 1.5 on exponential functions. Read up on Section 1.6 for next class.
Jan 15 Lecture 5 Ch 1 is finished. Pls prepare for Section 2.1 for next class.
Jan 17 Lecture 6 Completed 2.1 and much of 2.2. Will finish off 2.2 and discuss 2.3 next class. Be prepared.
Jan 20 Lecture 7

Contemplated changing tutorial times. Look out for doodle poll very soon - to be completed before next class.

Dealt with unfinished business from 2.2. Part way through 2.3. Will return to finish off 2.3 on Friday, after we deal with 2.4 on Wed. Section 2.4 will require a full lecture period devoted to the subject of "precise meaning of limits". Study this section between now and Wednesday!

Jan 22 Lecture 8

Urged participation on poll to identify different tutorial times.

Explained 2.4: gave exposure to so called "delta-epsilon" analysis. Next class we'll take up unfinished business from 2.3 before proceeding to 2.5 and 2.6. Read up on these sections before class.

Jan 24 Lecture 9

Updated on tutorial time change - to take place in early Feb. Urged forming Study Groups.

Caught up with 2.3. Now behind by one lecture. Next time we'll tackle 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7. Prepare for these sections before next class.

Jan 27 Lecture 10

Completed 2.5. In order to catch up, next time we hope to deal with 2.6, 2.7 and 2.8. Prepare for these sections before next class.

Jan 29 Lecture 11

Covered 2.6 and 2.7. Next time we'll go over 2.8, and then start a new chapter. Read over 2.8 and 3.1 for next class.

Finished 2.8 and much of 3.1. Pls prepare 3.2 and 3.3 for next class.

Feb 3 Lecture 13

Tackled 4.1. Make sure you attempt questions in Review section and Problem Plus at the end of Ch.3 in preparing for the upcoming test. Posted Test 2 preview. Prepare 4.2 for next class.

Almost completed 4.2. Next class will resume with clearing up that section, then we'll deal with 4.3.

Mar 3 Lecture 21

Completed 4.3. Test is next. After then when we meet again, we'll deal with 4.5.Will return to 4.4 later.

Completed 5.5, and therefore all new course material. The next two and final classes will be devoted to exam preparation. Please attempt posted past paper of W2013. We'll work through the entire 180-minute paper in a little over 2*40minute sessions, i.e. rapid fire fashion. Be well prepared, otherwise you'll not benefit as much as you could.
