Transcription Protocol

Transcribers work in teams, located at multiple academic institutions. Each team is divided into three stages. Stage one transcribers work directly from the correspondence. Stages two and three progressively proofread the transcription, eliminating errors and increasing accuracy.

Transcription Conventions

The Tyndall Correspondence Project has adopted many of the conventions used by the Darwin Correspondence Project. Over the course of transcription, however, the conventions have evolved. An updated version of the Project's transcription conventions is available here (pdf).

Transcription Training

A flash video, in three parts, explains the basics of transcribing. They can be found here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

Transcription Wiki

Transcribers, please head to the Project's wiki page for transcription help, information, and discussion.
