Simon Kuper has been a sports columnist for the Financial Times since 2002. His books include the award-winning Football Against the Enemy (1994), Ajax, the Dutch, the War: Football in Europe during the Second World War (2003), Retourtjes Netherland (2006) and, with, Stefan Szymanski, Soccernomics: Why England Loses, Why Germany and Brazil Win, and Why the U.S., Japan, Australia – and even Iraq – Are Destined to Become the Kings of the World’s Most Popular Sport (2009).

David Goldblatt is the author of the acclaimed The Ball is Round: A Global History of Football (2007). He also writes for Prospect and Granta magazines.
Sid Lowe is a Madrid-based writer who contributes to the Guardian, Four Four Two, World Soccer, and the Telegraph. He also appears on Spanish, Asian and American television as a football commentator and holds a doctorate in history.
John Doyle is columnist for Toronto’s Globe and Mail. He has reported on major international football tournaments. His forthcoming book is entitled The World is a Ball: The Joy, Madness and Meaning of Soccer.
