Each of the projects calls upon an interdisciplinary body of theory, historical perspectives, video interviews, material artifacts, etc., to consider a persistent problem: How are neighbourhoods in the city an expression rather than an effect of globalization? How can neighbourhoods provide us with a ground upon which to analyze, to contest, to resist or surrender to the effects of globalization? How are neighbourhoods like Little Italy or Chinatown different from city to city? How can virtual environments and new non-linear technologies be used as research tools to consolidate new methodologies and forms of interdisciplinary knowledge that ask a different set of questions?
