A better use for Vari Hall We want your opinion!

Welcome back everybody. I hope you had a good break, had some time to relax and have fun, and are ready for the winter term.

There are several exciting projects that are coming to fruition in the next few months.

The VP Academic and Provost, Patrick Monahan, will be releasing a draft of a "White Paper," a planning document that I hope all students, faculty and staff members will read. Students may be particularly interested in the sections on the "Student Experience" and in “Teaching Innovation and Student Learning,” but all seven sections are important and have been constructed thoughtfully and with the input of the York community. I am confident that as a result of this process, and using this document as our guide, we will enhance and enrich what it means to study and work on our campuses well into the future.

The Standing Committee on Campus Dialogue will launch their first event this term. I am confident that students will find it engaging and informative and I encourage all members of the community to participate of this exciting new initiative.

The February break will soon be here, and while it is an excellent time to take a breather, I would also encourage you to take advantage of the time to build your study skills and get help where you need it. There are many special events and workshops during the break and it’s a good time to make sure you are on track academically.

2010 is an exciting time to be at York. Building on our strengths, and with the help and involvement of everybody here, I am certain that we can and will make our campus even better.
