Final Report
Dear York Students,I am please to announce that the Presidential Task Force on Student Life, Learning & Community at York University has presented its report to President Mamdouh Shoukri. You can read the full report by downloading the PDF document linked below.
The recommendations include:
- the creation of a Standing Committee on Campus Dialogue to promote open discussion and debate on timely issues of global significance
- the creation of more and better student study and social space
- expanding the Student Code of Conduct to include fundamental student rights as well as responsibilities
- better enforcement of policies relating to the use of space on campus
The 13-member task force was chaired by York Vice-President Academic & Provost Patrick Monahan and included six students, six faculty members and myself. We consulted broadly with York students and student input made up the vast majority of the 79 written submission received.
I am very happy with the report. It is an important step, and I believe that the recommendations will do much to improve the civility of campus dialogue between students.
As the President has said, "We are doing everything we can to enhance the student experience at York and to ensure students are able to learn in an environment free from fear and hostility. This report is an important step in moving York forward."
Again, I encourage you to read the report and to join in the conversation. Comments can be forwarded to my office by writing to vpstdnts@yorku.ca.
