Our Team

WCAC is a collaboration between a diverse group of York students working with the common goal of creating fun and educational art and drama programs.

Here are the members of our exec team for the 2018-2019 year:


Paniz Haghighi
President

Major: Kinesiology
Experience with WCAC: 1 year as a volunteer, 1 year as Secretary
Art experience: I have been drawing and painting from a very young age as well as also working at an art studio, teaching young children how to experiment with a variety of different art mediums.
Favourite thing about WCAC: Providing a creative outlet for youth to express themselves through the arts.


Ashwinder Marwaha
Vice President

Major: Kinesiology
Experience with WCAC: 1 semester as a volunteer, 1 year as the Director of Public Relations
Art experience: My passion for art began at a young age and grew more as I took art classes and volunteered at summer camps.
Favourite thing about WCAC: Watching the pride and joy participants express after finishing an art piece and presenting it to friends and family.


Shreya Nair
Director of Friday Program: Visual Arts

Major: Biomedical Science
Experience with WCAC: 1 year as a volunteer
Art experience: I have been pursuing art since I could hold a pencil!
Favourite thing about WCAC: Having a space outside of school and work where I can have a great time and create some amazing art with kids.


Niousha Daghighi
Director of Friday Program: Performance Arts

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Experience with WCAC: 1 year as a volunteer
Art Experience: I took art classes in grade 11 & 12 and consider myself a self-inspired artist.
Favourite thing about WCAC: Spending time with great children and creating cute unexpected art with them. Sometimes they amaze me with the stuff they make.


Helen Lam
Director of Daycare
Major: Social Work
Experience with WCAC: 2 years as a daycare program volunteer
Art experience: I have previously volunteered at an arts-based summer camp.
Favourite thing about WCAC: Collaboration with Lee Wiggins Daycare

Michelle Mieu
Volunteer Manager
Major: Business Administration
Experience with WCAC: 1 year as a volunteer, 1 year as Treasurer
Art experience: I was always interested in visual arts growing up and have taken art classes when I was a child.
Favourite thing about WCAC: Being able to give students the opportunity to pursue their passions in art!


Kendra Bodden
Director of Public Relations

Major: Psychology
Experience with WCAC: 1 year as a volunteer
Art experience: I have limited experience, but I've always been an art lover and enthusiast.
Favourite thing about WCAC: I really love working with the kids.


Kristy Lau
Secretary

Major: Children Studies/Urban Studies
Experience with WCAC: 1 year as a volunteer
Art experience: I took art throughout all of high school.
Favourite thing about WCAC: Of course I love working with the children but another thing I look forward to is seeing the other members. The sense of community we build is great, it's one of the reasons I look forward to going to school on a Friday.


Afifa Bari
Director of Promotions

Major: Visual Arts and Art History
Experience with WCAC: 1 semester as a volunteer, 1 year as the Director of Visual Arts
Art experience: I consider myself a visual artist and photographer.
Favourite thing about WCAC: The playfulness children in WCAC are able to bring, allowing the teaching environment to be fun.
