Dr Alice Edwards is Lecturer in International Refugee and Human Rights Law, Refugee Studies Centre, and Member, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. She has previously worked at the UNHCR and the International Secretariat of Amnesty International. In 2001-2002, she was responsible for the "second track" of UNHCR's Global Consultations on International Protection, and the development of a new series of Guidelines on International Protection to supplement UNHCR's Handbook on Procedures and Criteria for Determining Refugee Status, including drafting many of the authoritative texts. Her work includes a co-edited collection, Human Security and Non-Citizens: Law, Policy and International Affairs (Cambridge University Press, 2010) and forthcoming monograph entitled, Violence against Women under International Human Rights Law (CUP, 2010). She is currently working on two projects: a British Academy-funded study on the meaning of "effective nationality" and de facto statelessness, and a UNHCR-funded study on alternatives to immigration detention.
