Welcome to York! We're glad you've chosen us as the next stop on your journey through life. In this special issue of York&U, we'll give you hints to help you navigate the first year of your university career including useful and necessary York services that you'll need in the first few months.
We won't lie to you: York is a big place. (Did you know that the main Keele campus is larger than the country of Monaco both in area and in population?) Happily, finding your way around your new home isn't as hard as you think. York has a wide range of services and supports to ensure that you succeed in your university life and beyond. The purpose of this newsletter is to give you an idea of who you can turn to if you need help. More>>

You may feel that we're recommending a long list of tasks, but each task is an important step in your transition process. Here's how to make sure that your first year is an enjoyable experience. More>>

- Apply for OSAP: If you applied by June 15, there will be sufficient processing time to ensure that your funds will reach York by the start of classes.
- After enrolling in your classes, pay the $450 enrolment deposit. The balance of your tuition and fees are due by September 10. If you're receiving OSAP, your tuition may be deferred to October 10, provided you've applied before June 15.
- The Student Financial Profile (SFP) for the Fall/Winter 07-08 session will be available in early August. By filling out this profile, you'll gain automatic consideration for York bursaries. The SFP will also determine your eligibility for work/study and service bursary positions on campus.
- Get a YU-card before classes start. The YU-card is your library card as well as your student identification card; without it, you won't be able to take materials out of the library. Plus, it's got your student number printed on it, which comes in handy when you're asked to write down your name and student number on each attendance form in every class. Until you've memorized your student number, always bring your YU-card to class!

It's very important that you pay your $450 enrolment deposit five business days after you enrol in your classes. There are many ways to pay this deposit: online, by phone banking or by cheque. You will be able to check your student account online to confirm that this payment has gone through. If you don't pay your enrolment deposit, you may be de-enrolled. If that happens, your place in the courses will be released to other students.
As soon as you enrol in your courses, tuition is charged to your account. You will not be expected to pay the full amount right away. There is a box on the top-right of your tuition statement labeled "Minimum payment due this month". If the amount shown in that box is zero, you don't have to pay anything for that month. The full amount of your tuition will not come due until September (or October if you've applied for OSAP by June 15). The only amount due before school starts is the $450 deposit.
New international students have fifteen business days to pay the deposit of $450 (Canadian). All payments made to your student account must be made in Canadian funds. To ensure easy payment of your student account, you must open a bank account as soon as possible after arriving in Canada. If you are required by Immigration Canada to prepay your tuition, you can arrange for a wire transfer to York from your home country. If your tuition and fees are being paid by an external agency, such as an embassy, you must pay the enrolment deposit and submit a letter from the agency confirming they will pay Student Financial services on your behalf by the payment deadline.

New Centre for Mature & Part-time students
York has just created a new initiative for mature and part-time students. While in the past most mature and part-time students were enrolled in the Atkinson Faculty, in recent years all Faculties have seen an increase in the distribution of this group of students. To address that need, the VP Academic has created the Atkinson Centre for Mature & Part-Time students. The mandate of the Centre is simple: to advocate for and serve the needs of part-time and mature students across the University. The Centre will not offer credit courses, but its primary focus will be to aid the academic experience of the students it serves.
