An accountant's task is to provide information to a variety of users including stockholders, bankers and managers to facilitate economic decisions. Different groups use accounting information for different purposes: stockholders may use it to determine whether to buy or to sell stocks, bankers use it to evaluate customers loan, managers use it to make decisions about business operations. Simply put, accountants identify, measure and communicate information used for making economic decisions. At York, you can specialize in accounting as part of a degree program. You can also work toward one of the three professional accounting designations: Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified General Accountant (CGA).
