Canadian Studies York University professor Colin Coates was awarded a Canada Research Chair in Canadian studies to examine attempts in Canada to create idealized social and political environments. The Chair in Canadian Cultural Landscapes is located at Glendon College, York University's bilingual campus, and promotes international, cross-disciplinary research on Canada's national culture. Canadian Studies aim to analyse and explain the Canadian experience in all of its dimensions, including Canada's varied geographical character, regional distinctions, history, politics, cultures, economies and multicultural aspects. The program places emphasis on the analysis of Canada's place in the global arena.
