Canadian Studies

York University professor Colin Coates was awarded a Canada Research Chair in Canadian studies to examine attempts in Canada to create idealized social and political environments. The Chair in Canadian Cultural Landscapes is located at Glendon College, York University's bilingual campus, and promotes international, cross-disciplinary research on Canada's national culture.

Canadian Studies aim to analyse and explain the Canadian experience in all of its dimensions, including Canada's varied geographical character, regional distinctions, history, politics, cultures, economies and multicultural aspects. The program places emphasis on the analysis of Canada's place in the global arena.

If you're looking to acquire a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Canadian problems and issues, then York's program is for you. It is designed to provide you with a good grasp of a major subject chosen from the departments of Anthropology, Economics, English, French Studies, Geography, History, Humanities, Political Science and Sociology.

Our programs are multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary! Courses are drawn from Economics, English, History, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Political Science, Social Sciences, Sociology and Women's Studies.

This program is offered by the following Faculties.

  • Glendon is a small, separate campus where courses are taught in both English and French. Glendon est un petit campus distinct où les cours sont offerts en français et en anglais.
  • The Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies offers full-time programs during the day, some part-time programs and courses offered in the late afternoon/evenings and via the Internet and correspondence.
