Exhibition: Laura Huddart “ Everything Is Beautiful”
Oct 22, 2012 to Nov 4, 2012, 10:30-4PM
Upper-level visual arts student Laura Huddart's photo exhibition Everything is Beautiful and Nothing Hurts explores subjects and images that are often seen as domestic, playful, escapist, or even “kitsch”. The artist works with these images as a means of escapism from feelings of discomfort and anxiety.

As technology increases and we become more and more disconnected from the non-virtual world, Huddart observes there is a growing desire in western culture for what is more tactile, handmade, and nostalgic -- whether it be a retrieval into a past perceived as comforting and benign, escaping into a constructed world of pristine domesticity, or slipping very easily into the consumerism embedded into western culture. She feels these escapes are almost always decaying or incomplete, leaving us to deal with the reality of these anxieties as they creep back into our fabricated worlds.
Reception: Thursday, October 25 at 6pm.
Admission is free. All welcome.
