Talk: Brazilian Migration to Guyana Nov 8, 2012, 1-2:30PM Katherine MacDonald, PhD candidate in geography gives a talk, Changing Places: Brazilian Migration to the Rupununi, Guyana. She will suggest that recent migration of Brazilian miners, businesspeople, and rice producers through the Amazon region and across the Guyanese border may be part of a larger geopolitical program designed to develop and protect Brazil's northern territory. This migration threatens the livelihood and existence of traditional cultures in Makushi and Wapishana territories in Guyana.
