Exhibition: 'Grow a Pair' by Larissa Kucharyshyn and Joy Wong

Grow a Pair is a joint exhibition of mixed media by Larissa Kucharyshyn and Joy Wong that explores ideas of feminist culture.

Topics include sexuality, beauty, religion, control, and socio-political gender norms, from both recent history and contemporary contexts. Motifs present include the use of standard feminine pieces of clothing, textiles, and religious symbols, and items seen in pairs: stockings, tights, legs, eyes, breasts, lips, genitals.

What does it mean, to “grow a pair” in a male-dominated culture? What dichotomies must be abolished?

A collection of mixed media ranging from sculpture and photography to oil painting, text-based images and printmaking, Grow A Pair presents the meeting point of past feminist theory with present concerns of young female artists.

About the Artists
Kucharyshyn is a fourth-year visual arts BFA major with a film minor.  Wong is a fourth-year visual arts BFA and creative writing double-major.

Opening reception: Monday November 19, 6:30-9:30pm. Refreshments will be served.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
