Headings

• use generously
• format properly as headings (in Word, use Styles menu)
• nest without skipping levels

Lists

• format properly as lists

Text Boxes

• eliminate text boxes to preserve natural reading order

Images

• provide succinct alt text for all images
• check quality of alt text: is it clear and specific?
• provide summary description of complex images in main text

Link Text

• make it long enough to see, but not overwhelming

Colour

• not the only means to convey information
• high-contrast
• avoid common colour deficits

Visual Distractions

• avoid blinking or scrolling text
• use animated graphics sparingly
• ensure animated graphics do not repeat endlessly
