China's Millions: Lecture and book launch

On May 3, YCAR held a special event to launch the new book by historian and friend of YCAR, Dr. Alvyn Austin. He spoke to a large crowd about China’s Millions: The China Inland Mission and Late Qing Society 1832-1905.
An engaging speaker, Dr Austin introduced the audience to an international world of characters in Britain and China: pre-millenarian dispensationalists, opium addicts, ranters, Buddhist sectarians, and the contradictory visionary who brought them together -- Hudson Taylor, the founder of the China Inland Mission (CIM).
Dr Austin is the son of CIM missionaries and this book represents a lifetime of research on the China Inland Mission.
Dr Austin is also author of Saving China: Canadian missionaries in the Middle Kingdom, 1888-1959 and the co-author of Canadian Missionaries, Indigenous Peoples: Representing Religion at Home and Abroad.

YCAR Research Associate Michael Stainton introduced Dr Austin
