Research Fellows
At the November 21, 1996 meeting of the executive council, the executive council established a research fellows program. People are welcome to apply to become Associates, Affiliates or Honorary Members of the York University Centre for Practical Ethics.
Associates
Associates of the York University Centre for Practical Ethics are full time faculty or CUPE contract faculty of York University, who are engaged in practical ethics research and wish to contribute to the activities of the Centre and may apply for use of its resources. Services will be allocated on the basis of availability and designation of overhead costs and other funds attached to the project.
Appointments are made for two years, renewable, subject to review, by the Director and the Executive Council.
Affiliates
Affiliates of the York University Centre for Practical Ethics are researchers and others external to the York university community who are engaged in practical ethics research and cognate activities, who wish to be affiliated with the Centre. This would include researchers of practical ethics who hold full time appointments at another university who want to participate in the Centre's activities. Affiliates may choose to affiliate their project with the Centre and may apply for use of its resources. Services will be allocated on the basis of availability and designation of overhead costs and other funds attached to the project. Proposals submitted by affiliates are subject to the rules and regulations of the Senate of York University, including ethical guidelines.
Appointments are made for two years, renewable, subject to review by the Director and the Executive Council.
Graduate Associates
York University Graduate students who are engaged in practical ethics research and wish to participate in and benefit from the Centre's activities, may apply to become Graduate Associates. They require a letter of reference from their graduate director or their thesis supervisor. Non-York graduate students may also apply for Graduate Student status. Two letters of reference are required, one from their graduate director, and one from a York University faculty member.
Appointments are made annually, renewable, subject to review by the Director and the Executive Council.
Visiting Associates
Visiting Associates are researchers external to York University, who hold a full-time, continuing appointment at another university or a Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and who wish to temporarily engage in the activities of the Centre. A Visiting Associate will normally be required to make a presentation on their research during the time of their stay.
The period of affiliation will not normally exceed one calendar year, and are subject to the approval of the Director and the Executive Council.
Honorary Members Nominations may be made for significant contributions in the field of Practical Ethics. Candidates will be nominated by the Director and the Executive Council. The Centre for Practical Ethics operates on a cost recovery basis and cannot normally provide secretarial, copying, telephone or other services that are not covered by grants or overhead. The allocation of services is contingent upon the size and the scope of projects housed within the Centre. At present, the Centre has only limited space and services to offer.
All Associates, Affiliates and Honorary members are subject to the rules and regulations (including ethical guidelines) of York University and the York University Centre for Practical Ethics. No use can be made of the Centre's name without the permission of the Director.
