YCAR accepting applications for Global Initiatives Symposium in Taiwan

The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) is accepting applications from graduate and undergraduate students at York who wish to participate in the Global Initiatives Symposium, from July 12 to 16 at the National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. The symposium will bring together emergent leaders from around the world to discuss critical global issues. This year’s topic, The Emergence of New Giants: Evolution of Revolution will look at three areas:

  • Natural Resources: A Golden Apple for Emerging Countries?
  • Emerging Countries at the Crossroads: Adoption of Green Technology
  • When East Meets West: New Perspectives under Asian Cultural Expansion

Participants will also take part in several days of cultural tours in Taiwan following the symposium.

YCAR has been invited by the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office to nominate one York student, undergraduate or graduate, to attend the symposium. The final selection is subject to the approval of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), organizers and sponsors of the symposium. The Republic of China (Taiwan) will provide the successful applicant with a round-trip flight (economy class) from Toronto to Taipei, board and lodging in Taiwan, and local transportation for the period of the symposium, as well as during the cultural tours.

All other expenses involved in attending the symposium and cultural tours will be the full responsibility of the successful applicant.

All applicants must be Canadian citizens and current undergraduate or graduate students at York University who were born in 1976 or later.

Interested undergraduate and graduate students should submit a hard copy and an electronic version of a cover letter, a 1,500-word essay, a resumé, two letters of recommendation and an unofficial copy of their York transcript to YCAR at 834 York Research Tower by Thursday, April 15, at 4:30pm. Late applications will not be accepted. E-mail submissions to ycar@yorku.ca.
