YIHR Executive Committee members, Marcia Rioux, Pat Armstrong, Ron Pearlman and Jianhong Wu have all been recognized by York University as Distinguished Research Professors. The title of Distinguished Research Professor is awarded to 25 faculty members at York who have demonstrated excellent, sustained and continuing contributions to a particular field, and whose work has had a major impact on the field, both at York and internationally.

York University Professor Tamara Daly has been awarded one of nine Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) research chairs in Gender Work and Health. The professor will lead a research program, Working Well: Understanding How Gender Influences Working Conditions and Health in Long-Term Care Settings Across Canada over the next five years. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) awarded York University almost $6.2 million to lead two major research projects. The projects will bring post-secondary education to the Dadaab refugee camps and surrounding area in northeastern Kenya, and promote employment of people with disabilities in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. The first project will be led by anthropology Professor Wenona Giles and education Professor Don Dippo, the second by Professor Marcia Rioux of the School Health Policy & Management in the Faculty of Health and Director of York Institute for Health Research.

Centre for Disease Modelling, will bring Canadian scientists together with principal Brazilian partners from the University of São Paulo and the BIOMAT Consortium/BIOMAT Institute of Advanced Studies of Biosystems to lead to important advances in the control of many diseases, including West Nile Virus, Dengue Fever and drug-resistant strains of tuberculosis. International Youth Internship Program accepting applications for placements in Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, and Indonesia. These are 6-month placements for Canadian university graduates that are funded by CIDA, and start in May.  The application deadline is February 18.
