Job Posting: York University Graduate Student Research Assistant York Institute for Health Research (YIHR) Toronto, Canada

The York Institute for Health Research (YIHR) is a university-based organized research unit that fosters health research. YIHR is looking to hire a York University graduate student in a Research Assistant position to support the project, Income security and labour-market engagement: Envisioning the future of disability policy in Canada. The objective of the project is to identify how the Canadian work disability policy system can better meet the needs of working-age individuals. Students whose research is related to one of the following questions would be an asset to the project:

a)  How well does the Canadian disability policy system serve the current and emerging needs of working-age individuals, when disabled, in terms of employment support and opportunities?

b)  For what individuals and labour-market contexts does it work well/not work well and why?

c)  What are the key opportunities for policy and program improvement in the short and long run?

Preference will be given to PhD candidates but Master level candidates are encouraged to apply. Please note this position is dependent on FGS funding. Only candidates eligible for additional FGS funding should apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Commit to participating in student forums, thematic and provincial meetings.

  • Present activity plans and results at annual provincial meetings.

  • Support grant development needs by conducting literature reviews and developing conceptual frameworks and methods.

  • Planning knowledge mobilization activities.

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the project activities.

  • Other duties as required

    Reporting:

    The position will involve working under the direction of Marcia Rioux Director of YIHR, and Project Co-lead of Ontario until or unless otherwise specified.

Job Posting: York University Graduate Student Research Assistant, Expanding the Circle

York Institute for Health Research (YIHR) Toronto, Canada

YIHR promotes collaborative research to establish a comprehensive, sustainable international system to monitor human rights of people with disabilities. YIHR is looking to hire a York University graduate student in a Research Assistant position to support the project, Expanding the Circle: Knowledge of Aboriginal issues or human rights and disability issues. This project brings a unique interdisciplinary team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups, community leaders and academic researchers together to advance Indigenous views and understandings of disability and disability rights. Priority will be given to students of Aboriginal descent and students with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Coordinator, team members and partners in the on-going field research work.

  • Research and writing related to project activities.

  • Coordinates project activities including meetings, student events and research activities.

  • Develop and coordinate knowledge mobilization tools including Facebook, Twitter, newsletter and podcasts.

  • Assist Project Coordinator with administrative tasks related to the project.

  • Other duties as required.
