Nurses at Risk: Exploring Gender and Race in Workplace Illness, Injury and Violence

With the high illness, injury and disability rates in nursing, it is important to understand the factors contributing to these rates and how nursing workplaces can better support and protect health care providers. This project funded by SSHRC (April 1, 2008 – March 31, 2011) will contribute to this understanding and will develop strategies for change by exploring the complex gendered dynamics that shape nursing work. YIHR executive member Pat Armstrong is the project PI, and other York participants include faculty member Tamara Daly, post-doctoral fellow Judith MacDonnell, and librarian Walter Giesbrecht.
