More trips added to the 196 York University Rocket

The Toronto Transit Commission has seen you standing at those bus stops and made changes to its 196 York University Rocket route which provides fast, frequent express service between York University, Downsview Station on the Spadina Subway and Sheppard-Yonge Station on the Yonge Subway and Sheppard Subway lines.

Members of the York community can now take advantage of enhanced service to the Sheppard-Yonge Station from York University. More trips have been added Monday to Friday during the midday and early evening periods. This additional service has been added to reduce waiting times, reduce crowding on the parallel 84 Sheppard West route and will provide an alternative to the 60 Steeles West route for travel between the Yonge Subway and York University.

Service improvements will mean better travel times for York commuters:

  • Monday to Friday midday service, between approximately 10:30 and 11:30am west of Downsview Station, will be improved from every 3 minutes to every 2 minutes 30 seconds.
  • Monday to Friday early evening service will improve from every 7 minutes to every 6 minutes.
  • Service between Downsview and Sheppard-Yonge stations will operate every 10 minutes between approximately 10:30 and 11:30am, every 12 minutes between approximately 11:30am and 3pm, and every 12 minutes in the early evening.
  • Service will be increased during the afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday and the combined service between Downsview Station and York University will improve from every 4 minutes to every 3 minutes 30 seconds.
