Go, SafeSource! Pub-night volunteers
win a national
award
A unique program conducted by York student volunteers has won a national award as Campaign of the Year from Bacchus Canada, a postsecondary healthy lifestyles education, training and support group dedicated to addressing alcohol-related issues on campuses across Canada. The SafeSource campaign, which staffs the Safe Pubbing Kiosk in York’s Student Centre, was chosen for its innovative direct approach and the size of its volunteer crew.

York's Heather Lotherington has issued a report that argues gaming systems like the Xbox represent a new kind of literacy and should be added to educators’ arsenal of learning and testing tools. 
McGuinty visits Glendon to highlight quality
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty visited York University’s Glendon campus on Nov. 29 to learn how increased funding has significantly improved the quality of education for York students. 
Kinesiology professor wins Polanyi Prize
for research
Denise Henriques, a professor in York's School of Kinesiology & Health Sciences, is a recipient of a 2006 Polayni Prize, awarded by the government of Ontario to recognize the province’s brightest young researchers.
Live at York: 'Poetic reporter' Priscila Uppal
Poet Priscila Uppal was the latest writer to appear for the Canadian Writers in Person series. Uppal, a York humanities professor, considers herself to be a poetic reporter. It was this approach that led to her latest collection of poetry, Live Coverage (2003), a sharp-eyed work that reflects on current events both locally and globally.

Gairdner Award winners speak
More than 300 senior high-school students from the GTA came to York University recently to hear exciting presentations from award-winning scientists. Andrew Fire, professor of biology in the departments of Pathology and Genetics at Stanford University, discussed his research in small RNA molecules, and Dr. Tak Mak, a world-renowned cancer specialist, spoke about the future of cancer research. 
York researcher unmasks the imposter
Why do many academics suffer from feelings of inadequacy and incompetence? How is it that even accomplished scholars fear that they will be exposed as frauds? According to the research of doctoral candidate Diane Zorn, many academics suffer from Imposter Phenomenon.
