Osgoode's Aboriginal Intensive Program
called 'unique in North America'

Back in the summer of 1990, Susan Hare (LLB '93) and several other Osgoode students became concerned about a showdown taking place in the small Quebec town of Oka between Aboriginal Canadian protesters, the Quebec police and eventually, the Canadian army. The Osgoode students decided to go to Montreal to show their support for the native demonstrators. When the students returned to Osgoode, they demanded to know what Osgoode was going to do to help aboriginal people.


The Leading Learning 2006 conference kicks off today
For the second year, Leading Learning 2006: An E-Learning Conference, will be held in the TEL Building on York's Keele campus today and tomorrow.

Supporting Canada's emerging artists
The opening reception for the ART@suite 500, a creative collaboration between York University's Graduate Program in Visual Arts and the Schulich School of Business, took place Saturday at the Miles S. Nadal Management Centre, Schulich's downtown Toronto campus.

Open forums planned in search of a new president for York
The Presidential Search Committee is engaging in a community consultation process to establish the criteria for the search for the next president of York University. The committee is holding an open forum on each of the Keele and Glendon campuses next month.

York President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden has been named to the Order of Canada, the country's highest honour for lifetime achievement.

Alumnus Jim Flaherty (LLB '73) was sworn in last week as Canada’s new finance minister. Appointed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Conservative MP from Whitby-Oshawa brings 10 years experience in provincial politics to his new post.

The Glendon Research Group in Public and International Affairs hosted a symposium on Feb. 2 to explore the future prospects of labour and unions in Canada, the US and Britain. The symposium was organized with assistance from members of the Glendon Student Economic Society.
