CAMPUS NOTES

Buy your TTC monthly Metropass at York for only $87

York University students, faculty and staff can purchase a Toronto Transit Commission monthly Metropass at a discounted rate of $87 from York’s Parking & Transportation Services. That works out to 12 per cent off the usual price of $98.75. This lower rate is available because York’s Parking & Transportation Services subscribes to the TTC’s volume incentive program.

Purchasers must provide a student number or employee number and documented proof of their York affiliation (York card, sessional student card, employee pay stub or Great West Life card) as well as photo identification (driver’s licence, passport, health card or York card).

October Metropasses are on sale Sept. 27, 28, &29 and Oct. 2 & 3, at the Parking & Transportation Services office in the William Small Centre. The hours of sales are from 8:45am to 3:30pm.

For more information, contact the customer service line at ext. 55335 or e-mail transit@yorku.ca.

Mobile crane will be set up today near Petrie

Bird Construction will be setting up a mobile crane Monday, Sept. 25, at the south side of the Petrie Science & Engineering Building on the Campus Walk. The crane will be in place for one day to remove an elevator from the building.

Success with York’s Libraries

The York Libraries have much to offer students to help them succeed in their courses: books and other materials, spaces for study and discussion, computers (even laptops), and people to advise them on their library and Internet research.

How can students learn about all this and take full advantage of it? The Libraries prepared a short online library "Survival Guide" that you can find it on the York Library Web site.

York’s goSAFE program offers escort and shuttle service

York’s Security, Parking & Transportation Services’ goSAFE program offers faculty, staff and students an evening safety service. The goSAFE program replaces the Student Security/Escort Service.

The goSAFE program uses a combination of York Student Safety Officers who act as companions for people moving around the University's campuses at night. At the Glendon campus, York Student Safety Officers will accompany you by request to your campus destination or bus stop. If you are working late or feeling uncomfortable about getting to your destination on the Keele or Glendon campus, call ext. 55454 and a York Student Safety Officer will walk you to the nearest goSAFE stop for pick up by the shuttle, or they’ll walk you to your destination on campus.

At the Keele campus, there are two shuttle routes with 11 goSAFE stops where you can pick up the service approximately every 15 minutes between 6pm and 2am (see August 2006 issue of Ylife ). These stops are considered goSAFE zones, have appropriate lighting and are closed-circuit television monitored with blue lights and emergency phones. Click here to see a list of stops and the goSAFE route map.

The service, which began Aug. 1, runs seven days a week. From May to August, the hours of operation are 8pm to 2am. From September to April, the hours are 6pm to 2am. The shuttles will run approximately every 15 minutes at the Keele campus only.

For more information about the goSAFE program, call 416-736-5454 (or ext. 55454) or visit the goSAFE Web site.
