A Leadership Retreat, organized by York Student Community & Leadership Development, is designed to bring out the leader in York students. Leadership skills will be developed through outdoor adventure activities, team buildings, interactive speakers, group problem solving and student led sessions. Students will have the opportunity to learn leadership theory and practice outside the classroom. Participants are provided with a “safe space” to learn from fellow student leaders, because “each one teaches one”. The retreat's main objective is to provide an exciting co-curricular opportunity for York students. 
Faculty of Arts celebrates 34 outstanding students
The Faculty of Arts recognized the achievements of 34 outstanding students at an award ceremony in The Underground restaurant in November with a variety of awards and bursaries. 
Lions basketball will be featured on television
The York Lions men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the Tait McKenzie Centre this week for a pair of games against the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees. On Saturday night, Rogers Television will be broadcasting both the men’s and women’s games against the Gee-Gees. The women’s game can be seen at 8pm followed by the men’s at 10pm in the Toronto and Ottawa regions. 
'Reaching back' key to Westview Partnership's success
Mentoring is a way of life for people involved in the Westview Partnership. "Just reach back and pull someone up" is the motto of Jackie Robinson, York Faculty of Education member and coordinator of the partnership, whose projects helps students in the Westview community. 
Ontario's archives are coming to York
York University’s Keele campus will be the new home for the Archives of Ontario. The new multi-use three-storey, 290,000-square-foot podium building will connect to eastern end of the existing York Lanes building. 
Law prof competes for TVO's Best Lecturer title
York law Prof. Allan Hutchinson has made the final top-10 in TVOntario’s competition for Best Lecturer 2007. Hutchinson's lecture will be aired on Feb. 10 and 11 at 4pm. Following the lecture, York viewers will have a chance to vote online or by telephone. 
AGYU presents Looking at the Overlooked
The Art Gallery of York University and York's Destination Arts program are pleased to present Looking at the Overlooked, an exhibition of new work by students from C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute and Monsignor Percy Johnson Catholic High School. On view at the Samuel J. Zacks Art Gallery at York University from Jan. 14 to 26. 
Lecture series will honour James Mavor Moore
Yorks' Faculty of Fine Arts will establish a lectures series to honour York Professor Emeritus James Mavor Moore, who died on Dec. 18, 2006. Moore was a member of the Department of Theatre from 1970 to 1984 but is known nationally for his enormous contributions to the growth of the arts and culture in Canada. 
York mathematician wins US award for distinguished service
The Mathematical Association of America presented its highest award for distinguished service to mathematics to York Professor Emeritus and human rights activist Lee Lorch. The 91-year-old American-born mathematician, who still uses an office at York, is only the second Canadian recipient of this prestigious award.  |
