Theatre @ York presents Edward Bond's 'Restoration'
Mar 18, 2012 to Mar 24, 2012
Directed by David Storch
Theatre @ York's season culminates with Restoration by English playwright Edward Bond, widely acclaimed as one of the world's leading living dramatists.
Bond’s bitingly witty play strips away the genteel veneer of life in 18th-century England to expose the brutal truth beneath. The plot centres on a guileless servant named Bob and his devotion to his cynical and irresponsible master, Lord Are. Bob’s unquestioning acceptance of traditional social strata and aristocratic privilege has a tragic outcome, as he loses everything to a class struggle he didn't realize existed.
Storch directsa lively young cast drawn from the Undergraduate Acting Conservatory in York’s Department of Theatre. The production features original music composed by the show's music director, undergrad student Sam Sholdice.
Storch's directorial credits include Metamorphoses (Globe Theatre), Glengarry Glen Ross (Soulpepper), The Palace of the End, A Number, Take Me Out, Twelfth Night, Misery (Canadian Stage), How I Learned to Drive (Manitoba Theatre Centre, Belfry Theatre) and Einstein’s Gift, Blue/Orange, The Beauty Queen of Leenane (Citadel Theatre).
