Women in Science - Why so Few?: presented by Visiting Scholar Neelam Kumar

In this talk by Centre for Feminist Research Visiting Scholar Neelam Kumar, the title question will be posed and discussed, as well as many associated questions, such as "Why there are so few especially at the higher echelons?"; "Why so few in certain disciplines like engineering?"; "Why so few in terms of awards and prestigious positions?"; "Why so few in the editorial boards?" Finally, "what’s the need? Why should be there be more women in science?" will be considered.
Neelam Kumar is a scientist with the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS), in New Delhi, India. Her work concerns the psychology of science, and gender and science. She published the edited book Women and Science in India (Oxford University Press, 2009) and another volume, Gender and Science: Studies across Cultures, is being published by Cambridge University Press, India.
