FASI Brass Boot Camp for high school & university students

This three-day intensive boot camp for experienced high school and university brass players will feature workshops, masterclasses and chamber music sessions in the studios of the Department of Music at York University.
Led by trumpeter and composer David Marlatt of Eighth Note Publications, Canada’s foremost publisher of brass chamber music, the camp will include performances and masterclasses by some of the country’s most renowned brass musicians, courtesy of Yamaha Canada.
Trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba players are all welcome.
David Marlatt is the founder of the ensemble Trumpets in Style. Principal cornet in the Whitby Brass Band for six years, he has performed in many different settings, including jazz and brass bands, symphony orchestras, concert bands and period instrument ensembles.
Marlatt's credits as composer include pieces for concert band, string orchestra, brass quintet, trumpet ensemble, piano, tuba and trumpet. He has written works for a wide range of performers and skill levels, from very young players to professional brass quintet. His jazz- based trumpet ensemble pieces "Groovy Vamp" and "A Coconut Named Alex" are audience favourites, and his compositions for concert band are found on many festival lists. He has also arranged more than 800 works from the Baroque to the Romantic eras, including Monteverdi madrigals, a large suite of music from Handel's Messiah, the Largo from Dvorak's New World Symphony and Mahlers First Symphony.
Marlatt holds a degree in music education frin the University of Western Ontario.
Workshop fee: $180 + HST
Fine Arts Summer Intensive (FASI) is a series of creative experiential workshops for high school and university students, emerging professionals and educators, offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts at York University. From two-day training sessions to three-week boot camps, FASI offers intensive experiences in dance, design, film, music, theatre and visual arts designed to whip you into creative shape!
