Vocal Masterclass with Baritone Peter McGillivray

Canadian baritone Peter McGillivray first captured national attention as a member of the Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio and the winner of the 2003 CBC Young Performers Competition. He went on to win international notice in 2005 as second prize-winner in both the Montreal International Musical Competition and at the Queen Sonja Competition in Oslo, Norway.

McGillivrary's credits in recent seasons include roles in La Bohème and Capriccio at the Metropolitan Opera, NYC: I Pagliacci, Gianni Schicchi, Manon and the Canadian premiere of Jake Heggie’s Moby Dick for Calgary Opera; Die Fledermaus with Opera Hamilton; and Albert Herring, La Bohème, War and Peace and Dido and Aeneas for the Canadian Opera Company.

He has sung in concert with the Calgary Philharmonic, Edmonton, Regina and Winnipeg Symphonies, National Arts Centre Orchestra, l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Festival appearances include the world premiere of Andrew Staniland’s Dark Star Requiem with Tapestry New Opera Works at the 2010 Luminato Festival; the Aspen, Britten, Ravinia, Roskilde, Aldeburgh and Tanglewood Festivals internationally, and the Elora, Orford, Ottawa Chamer Music, Toronto Summer Music, Festival of the Sound, Brott Festival, Music & Beyond, Indian River Festival and FestiVoix Trois Rivières in Canada.

Masterclass participants are students in the classical vocal performance program in the Department of Music.

Observers are welcome. Admission is free.
Please use discretion when entering and exiting the hall.
