Vocal Masterclass with Soprano Wendy Nielsen

Canadian soprano Wendy Nielsen leads a vocal masterclass for students in the Department of Music's classical vocal performance program.
Ms. Nielsen has enjoyed an international career on the operatic and concert stage. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte in 1996 and has since performed numerous roles at the Met including the Countess in Marriage of Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Micaela in Carmen. Other North American opera companies she has performed with include the Canadian Opera Company (where she was a member of the Ensemble Studio training program), New York City Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Boston Lyric Opera, L'Opera de Montreal, Calgary Opera, Minnesota Opera, and Florida Grand Opera.
Alongside her performance career, Ms Nielsen is an active voice teacher, clinician and adjudicator. She has guest-taught at the Royal Conservatory's Glenn Gould School, University of Manitoba, McGill, Dalhousie and Mount Allison University as well as summer programs including Orford and Opera Nuova. She is the artistic director of the summer program at St Andrews by the Sea, New Brunswick, which she has developed into a nationally recognized program over the past 16 years.
Ms Nielsen holds a BMus in voice from the University of Lethbridge and an MMus in opera from UBC. She has received honorary doctorates from the University of New Brunswick, University of Lethbridge and Mount Allison University.
Observers are welcome in masterclass. Admission is free.
