From the Emergency Department to Health Policy: An Unplanned Journey
Oct 23, 2012, 1:30pm-3pm
Faculty Research Profile Series Calumet College will present Dr. Joel Lexchin, a professor in the School of Health Policy & Management at York University who also works in the emergency department at the University Health Network.
How does an emergency physician end up teaching health policy to undergraduates and graduates at York University and why does he keep going after the big drug companies? Lexchin will talk about how medicine is not just about saving people’s lives, but needs to be seen as a larger social dimension.
Lexchin received his MD from the University of Toronto in 1977 and is author or co-author of over 115 peer-reviewed articles on a wide variety of topics concerned with Canadian and international pharmaceutical policy.
Students often say they want to get to know professors as people and not just as instructors in front of a class. This series presents eminent York faculty speaking about their broad research interests rather than about a single narrow topic. Come learn what professors have devoted their careers to studying, how they do what they do, and why they and you, will find it fascinating.
