Transmedia Storytelling: Bruno Masi - "La Zone"
Oct 22, 2012, 2:30pm-5:30pm
The Consulate General of France in Toronto and the Norman Jewison Series, Department of Film, York University present French journalist/filmmaker Bruno Masi discussing the making of his transmedia project La Zone.
The title refers to the exclusion zone - the "no access" zone - that surrounds the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine, the site of one of the world's worst environmental disasters.
Masi co-created La Zone with photojournalist Guillaume Herbaut. Located at the intersection of journalism, publishing and contemporary art, the work is a web documentary and multimedia installation that was showcased at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris. Blending still images, text, video and sound, the project highlights how life has returned to Chernobyl, 25 years after the meltdown of the nuclear plant.
La Zone won top honours at the 2011 FRANCE 24-RFI web documentary competition in Paris.
Admission is free and all are welcome, but pre-registration via Eventbrite is appreciated.
The Transmedia Storytelling series seeks to establish a dialogue between France and the Toronto sector in digital innovation by studying interactive cross-platform storytelling techniques through the examples of work by French creatives.
