Ethics and Economics: An Oxymoron?
Oct 25, 2012, 12pm-1:30pm
Professor George Fallis will offer reflections on ethics and economics, considering economics as one discipline of the social sciences, and contrasting ethics of a field of study with professional ethics. He will look at the history of economic thought, and then how neoclassical (mainstream) economics is taught at universities today. He will conclude with thoughts on how economics has dealt with two great changes in the economies of the western world of recent years: the financial crisis and recession, and rising income inequality (the one per cent).
