Borderworld: Biometrics, AVATAR and the Somatechnics of the Sonoran Borderlands

Nov 5, 2012, 2pm-3:30pm

In this talk, the speaker describes the emerging reliance on biometric and surveillance technologies in the borderlands of the Sonoran Desert between Arizona, USA and Sonora, Mexico. He argues that we are increasingly witnessing an emerging "borderworld," wherein a vast array of techniques and technologies are similar across various borderlands throughout the world. In fact, borders and borderlands are increasingly rearticulated as techno-spaces, or somatechnical borderlands.
