Vocal masterclass with accompanist, vocal coach, and composer John Greer

Accompanist, vocal coach, arranger, composer and conductor John Greer leads a masterclass with young singers from the classical vocal performance studios of York University faculty members Catherine Robbin, Stephanie Bogle, Norma Burrowes, Michael Donovan, Janet Obermeyer and Karen Rymal.

Observers are welcome at the masterclass, but please use discretion when entering and exiting the hall. Admission is free.

John Greer is visiting associate professor of vocal coaching and head coach of voice and opera at the School of Music, University of Kentucky. He has worked throughout the US and Canada and abroad. His collaborations with singers include leading Canadian artists Catherine Robbin, Michael Schade, Rosemarie Landry, Tracy Dahl, Nancy Argenta, Linda McGuire, Kevin McMillan and Mark Pedrotti. In the US, he has worked with eminent  singers/teachers Carmen Balthrope, Linda Mabbs, Carmen Pelton, Ashley Putnam, William Sharp and Delores Ziegler.


Greer's credits include productions with Opera Ontario and the Canadian Opera Company, where he was as chorus master for Un Ballo in Maschera and Il Barbiere di Siviglia and assistant conductor for Suor Angelica. He served for five years as music director of the Eastman Opera Theatre in Rochester, NY, where his conducting credits included Le Nozze di Figaro, Candide, Albert Herring, Patience and The Turn of the Screw. He also served two years as music director of the Opera Studio at the University of Maryland, and from 2003 to 2010 was director and chair of opera studies at Boston's New England Conservatory, where his conducting credits included The Magic Flute, Cendrillon and all of the Mozart/Da Ponte operas. He spent ten summer seasons as general manager and head of music staff for the Janiec Opera Workshop at the Brevard Music Center, NC, and has also been on the music staff of the Glimmerglass and Chautauqua Opera companies.

Greer’s compositions include ten song cycles written for Canadian singers including 
Adrianne Pieczonka, Catherine Robbin, Mark Dubois, Tracy Dahl and Monica Whicher, and numerous works based on Canadian folk songs.
