Theatre studio presentation: "The Penelopiad " by Sophocles
Mar 19, 2014 to Mar 22, 2014
Margaret Atwood based her 2007 play The Penelopiad on her novella of the same name. Originally co-produced by Canada's National Arts Centre and The Royal Shakespeare Company in the UK, the play features a cast of thirteen women: Penelope and her entourage of twelve maids. Together they tell the story of Penelope's experience as she waits at home for her husband over the course of the Odyssey, and the grisly fate that befalls the maids upon his return.
Graduate directors Matjash Mrozewski and Jamie Robinson each direct one act of the play, performed by actors from the Graduate Conservatory and 3rd Year Acting Conservatory in York's Department of Theatre.
